Tom Parker forced to pull out of The Wanted gigs amid cancer battle

Tom Parker has unfortunately been forced to pull out of The Wanted’s first concerts as he continues to fight cancer.

The singer is still receiving experimental treatment in Spain, but the boyband is due to kick off their return with the start of their UK tour in Glasgow this evening, Thursday 3 March.

The 33 year old, who is currently staying in a private hospital in the European country, had hoped to return in time to perform with his bandmates.

But sadly, logistical issues with the treatment schedule have meant he will need to continue the programme for a few more days.

Tom, who was diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2020, initially old his fans the grade four glioblastoma was inoperable, and as a result, terminal.

He was also warned he only had 12 to 18 months left to live.

Thankfully, the dad-of-two – who shares daughter Aurelia, and Bodhi, 11 months, with wife Kelsey Hardwick – was given some hope for the future and after six rounds of chemotherapy and 30 radiotherapy sessions, his condition has already improved.

And what’s more, after discovering the revolutionary treatment in Spain, his life expectancy could increase even further.

While the pop star has to shell out £4,000 a week on his medical care, he has become much more positive and even recently said he hopes to be “cancer free” by March.

Sharing a statement about missing The Wanted’s shows, Tom explained to his fans: “So, as most of you know, I’ve been out in Spain on a treatment programme for the past couple of weeks.

“It was only meant to last 20 days but due to a couple of logistical changes with tests and results it won’t be complete until the end of the week now which has delayed our journey home.”

The star went on to say he’s “obviously gutted” to not be able to perform with his bandmates Max George, Siva Kaneswaran, Jay McGuiness and Nathan Sykes.

But the other musicians shared support and understanding for their friend.

“As I’m sure you will understand, I have to complete my treatment cycle,” Tom continued.

“I’ve been zooming into rehearsals all week and I know that the show will be incredible and that my boys will hold the fort until I’m back.”

“Can’t wait to see you all very soon, hope you all enjoy the show. Much love. Tom x,” he added in the caption.

“Look after yourself brother x Sending you and fam lots of love,” Siva encouraged in the comments.
