Local Girl Scouts focus on environment for World Thinking Day

More than 50 local Girl Scouts came together for Service Unit 30’s World Thinking Day Celebration Feb. 26 at the Lewes Public Library.

Troops in attendance were 115, 172, 454, 601, 701, 1080 and 1150, all from Lewes, Milton and Rehoboth.

It was an opportunity to connect with their global sisterhood of 10 million Girl Guides and Girl Scouts in 152 countries, and speak out on issues that affect girls and young women.

Celebrated since 1926, World Thinking Day is a day of international friendship.

This year’s World Thinking Day started a three-year journey for Girl Scouts to become environmentally conscious leaders. The 2022 theme was Our World, Our Equal Future: The Environment & Gender Equality.

The seven troops each shared their research on a country and a change maker from that country. The girls then traveled around to get their passports stamped at each country’s display. The celebration closed with the Girl Scout tradition of singing “Make New Friends” while passing around a friendship squeeze.
