Jaden Smith supports dad Will after he punches Chris Rock over Jada joke

Jaden Smith has shared a statement in support of his dad Will Smith after he hit comedian Chris Rock at the Oscars 2022.

Following his shocking decision to get up on the stage and smack 57 year old Chris across the face for joking about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith’s hair loss at the awards show, Will warned the presenter: “Keep my wife’s name out of your f****** mouth.”

Will’s 23 year old son Jaden tweeted in response: “And that’s how we do it!” – indicating he was proud of his dad for standing up for his mum.

The incident began when Chris made a joke about The Matrix Resurrections actress’s shaved head.

“Can’t wait to see you in G.I. Jane 2!” the actor quipped, which prompted an eye roll from Jada, 50, in the audience.

Unimpressed, Will proceeded to storm onto the stage, leaving both Chris and the entire auditorium stunned into silence.

Jaden’s comment was a controversial one and received a mixed response from his followers, as one person replied: “No that’s not how you do it.”

Another fan asked: “Jaden. Really? Will was in tears after he slapped Chris. And has to be consoled by Denzel and Tyler. That’s not how we do it. That’s not how we do at all,” while a third person noted Chris’s comments were “wrong” but “so were Will’s” and it overshadowed the actor’s Best Actor win.

In the commercial break, fellow actors such as Bradley Cooper and Denzel Washington proceeded to try and calm down the Fresh Prince of Bel Air icon, with pictures showing 47 year old Bradley putting his hands on Will’s shoulders.

Later on, Will took the opportunity during his acceptance speech for Best Actor to apologise for his earlier actions, blaming “love” for his wife as the reason.

The star, who was awarded the prestigious gong for his impressive role in King Richard – a film about a passionate husband and father trying to protect his family – called his character a “fierce defender” before saying “art imitates life”.

“I look like the crazy father, just like they said about Richard Williams,” he went on.

“But love will make you do crazy things,” Will finished, and delivered an apology to the Academy and the nominees.
