Crash in Apple Valley kills Lucerne Valley woman

San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department patch.

A Lucerne Valley woman was killed in a crash after authorities said she ran a red light and her vehicle was broadsided by a semi truck.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department identified the woman as 36-year-old Elaine Macdonald.

Emergency personnel responded to the crash shortly after midnight Saturday at the intersection of Central Road and State Highway 18 in Apple Valley.

According to investigators, Macdonald was driving north on Central Road when she “failed to stop at the red signal” and a Mack Pinnacle truck hit the Ford Explorer she was driving.

Macdonald was “ejected from the vehicle and suffered fatal injuries,” the sheriff’s department said. An Apple Valley man was driving the semi truck.

The intersection was closed for about seven hours while deputies investigated and interviewed witnesses. Sheriff’s officials said it was unknown whether drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash.
