Gulf Shores — and a couple of Florida cities — were recently featured on a list highlighting the 12 best U.S. seaside cities travelers can visit for a summer escape.

Sand Castle University, Gulf State Park, the Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo, Jurassic Golf and several other local hot spots were just a few reasons that put Gulf Shores, Alabama, on the list.

The article also highlighted the area’s myriad of beach activities like parasailing, dolphin and wildlife kayak tours and snorkeling as even more reasons to make a trip. But the publication didn’t fail to mention some favorite local eats like LuLu’s — best known for its burgers and seafood.

West Palm Beach and Cocoa Beach were the only two Florida cities cited by Fodor’s, which included cities in California, Massachusetts and Hawaii.

The guide touted bustling shopping and nightlife, along with plenty of dining options, as a few of the reasons West Palm Beach made the list. The Restoration Hardware Rooftop Restaurant was singled-out for its cocktails and Clematis Street was also mentioned as a go-to for solid bar and restaurant choices.

Cocoa Beach was highlighted for its Westgate Cocoa Beach Pier, Riki Tiki Tavern, having a great downtown scene and being home to the original Ron Jon Surf Shop.
