Man Utd may already have four options to replace Marcus Rashford

Manchester United already have four options to replace Marcus Rashford with PSG confirming their interest in his signature. The forward’s contract at Old Trafford expires at the end of the season but the club hold the option to extend his deal by 12 months meaning he could be available for nothing in 2024.

The Red Devils already have four young players at the club who they can breed to replace him in 18 months’ time. Here Express Sport has a look at who they are and detail their chances.

Alejandro Garnacho

The Argentian has burst onto the scene at United this season with his last-minute winner against Fulham in the club’s final game before the World Cup ensuring he was the main name on supporter’s lips going into the break.

The 18-year-old’s favoured position is on the left wing, usually, the domain of Rashford. He would therefore be an exciting, ready-made replacement should the England international depart in 2024, making use of substitute appearances and starts in cup competitions to take his place in the first team in 18 months’ time.

Anthony Elanga

The Swede may be the steadiest replacement should Rashford leave having enjoyed the most first-team exposure out of United’s young stars having made 42 appearances for the club since making his debut in 2021.

However, he is yet to replicate the kind of goal-scoring form shown by the team’s current No 10 after netting just four times and contributing a further three assists during his time in the side. He will need to improve soon if he is to become the best option going forward.

Facundo Pellistri

The 20-year-old is yet to make a Premier League appearance for the Red Devils but started two of Uruguay’s World Cup fixtures showing he could have more to offer if he has faith placed in him.

He may require a loan spell over the next 18 months if he is to replace Rashford, given his lack of match-playing experience. However, Pellistri could be an option for the role should he manage to unleash his potential.

Amad Diallo

Someone who is reaping the rewards of a good loan spell is Diallo with the Ivorian impressing at Sunderland. A poor six-month stint at Rangers last season suggested he may not have what it takes to reach the top level but he has turned those perceptions around at the Stadium of Light.

It took a while for him to get going but four goals and an assist in his last six Championship appearances and could be an option to replace Rashford if he keeps up his current form. Attention will be on the 20-year-old when he returns to Old Trafford to see how he performs.
