Alex Scott worked as a pundit for the BBC during the World Cup in Qatar and experienced an action-packed tournament as she defied FIFA, got a dressing down from her employers and wowed fans with her choice of attire. The 38-year-old was a star of the screen throughout the tournament as fans hung on her every word.

Scott, who has appeared as a presenter on The One Show since 2019, can usually be seen fronting Football Focus. But the former Arsenal and England right-back jetted out to Qatar to give her opinions on matches as a pundit. And she certainly made a name for herself in the Middle East.

After England decided their captain Harry Kane would not wear the One Love armband against Iran in their World Cup opener because of threats of sanctions from FIFA, Scott decided she would instead be the one to make a stand.

A whole host of countries had committed to wearing the armband as part of a campaign to promote inclusion and fight discrimination. But when those countries performed a U-turn ahead of the tournament, Scott defied football’s governing body by wearing the armband over her top on her left arm as she carried out her punditry duties with the item clearly visible for all to see.
