Following a dramatic end to the race for the Premier League title, many fans have been left disappointed as the League comes to a close.
Interested to uncover the angriest fans throughout the season, the experts at SeatPick took to Reddit to carry out a sentiment analysis to create a total score out of 10, by analysing negative posts/ comments, and swear words in each Premier League team’s main subreddit.
Highlights from the research:
- Newcastle United fans are the angriest in the Premier League with a score of 9.52/10.
- West Ham United fans are second with a score of 8.5/10.
- League winners Man City fans are the eighth angriest in the Premier League with 6.19/10.
- Runner-up Arsenal fans are in eleventh place with a score of 4.76/10.
The Premier League teams with the most abusive fans
SeatPick can reveal that Newcastle United have the most abusive fans with a score of 9.52 out of 10. Newcastle fans use an average of 42.8 swear words per 100 comments, and 33.63% of comments are negative. Although Newcastle have finished fourth in this year’s campaign, fans were desperate for more and their anger towards other teams has been made evident on social media.
In second place is West Ham United, with an abusive fan score of 8.57 out of 10. Although West Ham have a slightly lower average of swear words per 100 comments than first place (37.62), they do however have a similar percentage of negative comments per post (32.83%). West Ham haven’t finished in the top half of the Premier League table, they have however reached the final of the Europa Conference League against Fiorentina.
Nottingham Forest have the third most angry fans with a score of 8.33 out of 10. Nottingham Forest have just about survived relegation this year, which may be why fans have been so disappointed this year (with 32.16% of their comments and posts being negative)
Everton have the fourth most abusive fans scoring 7.85/10 (average of 35.83 swear words per 100 comments/ posts). Everton have also had a tough campaign this year, narrowly avoiding relegation from the Premier League, with two points ahead of Leicester City.
In fifth place is Manchester United with an abusive fan score of 6.90/10 (2.62 lower than Newcastle United). Man United fans have been very prominent on social media this year, with a lot of abusive comments regarding Ronaldo’s departure in November 2022.
