Afghanistan plane crash: 'US military plane' in flames after Taliban attack – VIDEO

Sharing the footage on Twitter Intel Air & Sea wrote: “No doubting that it is a US military E11 aircraft that crashed in #Afghanistan.” Despite this, there is still some confusion regarding the details of the crash. An investigation is currently underway.

Maj Beth Riordan, a spokeswoman for US Central Command told Associated Press News agency that it remained unclear whose aircraft was involved in the crash.

Another US defence official told Military Times: “We are aware of the reports and are investigating.

“At this point, we cannot confirm it is a DOD (Department of Defence) asset.”

Initially, there was speculation that the plane shot down belonged to state-owned airline Ariana.

The airline quickly issued a strong denial of this saying it only had two planes in the air and they were safe.

Mirwais Mirzekwal, the chief executive of Ariana told Reuters: “It does not belong to Ariana because the two flights managed by Ariana today, from Herat to Kabul and Herat to Delhi, are safe.”

The plane reportedly downed in the remote and mountainous Deh Yak district in eastern Ghazni province while en route to Kabul from Herat, at about 1.10 pm on Monday.

Ghazni police commander Ahmed Khalid Wardak told the BBC there was no information about the casualties yet.
