Ellen DeGeneres has been a household name for over a decade, her daytime television show, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, has been on air since millennials can remember, and DeGeneres has long been praised as being a positive force for the LGBT+ community. However, the supposed kind and generous daytime host has recently been facing down the barrel of not just internet cancelation, but network cancelation.
DeGeneres has been accused of being rude to guests, people who serve her in restaurants, and much more. It’s a shock for people who have followed her career for years, but many in the industry who have worked with her seem to be confirming the stories.
With all the “Queen of Mean” name calling happening, rumors have begun to swarm that DeGeneres and her wife Portia de Rossi’s relationship is headed for the rocks and possible divorce.
Why people are saying this
The rumor probably started as a Hollywood tabloid story – someone heard Ellen DeGeneres was being called out for past actions and decided it was a logical (if fake) next step for their story to take.
The rumor gained traction, however, when rumors began circulating that DeGeneres was “jealous” of her wife Portia for getting a new cooking show offer from the Food Network. An anonymous source is claimed to have said she was unsupportive and would prefer for her wife to stay home.
The source is also claimed to have said that Ellen resented the idea of the show potentially being filmed in their house and that Portia thought her wife was being “pig-headed and stubborn”.
What’s actually happening
What’s actually happening is absolutely nothing. Portia de Rossi was interviewed by Us Weekly and she confirmed that she and Ellen DeGeneres were doing just fine in their relationship. In fact, she was somewhat honored by being the next target of Hollywood divorce rumors saying, “Oh, now we’re finally accepted.”
Whether or not there’s a cooking show in the works or a cooking show which she turned down was not acknowledged, but as far as Portia and Ellen as a couple – they aren’t going anywhere any time soon.
The couple originally got married in 2008, before it was even legal in the US. The two have been together ever since and appear to be rather happy. By Hollywood standards this makes them one of the more stable couples in the public eye.
