Officials in Australia expect conditions to worsen with hot, dry weather and winds settling in.
Professor Kundzewicz said: “I emphasise, more and more forest areas are burning because the climate is changing and it is getting warmer. This is beyond doubt.
“Even if you add the uneven time and spatial distribution of rainfall, you can see the effects in the form of such phenomena.
“And as I mentioned, the process will deepen, that is, where it is dry now, it will be even drier, and where it is humid, there will be more rainfall.”
According to climate expert, climate change and global warming have greatly contributed to the Australian bushfires.
