Two women, aged 21 and 65, and a 15-year-old boy are said to be in a serious but stable condition. Another two women, aged 45 and 52, and a 50-year-old man suffered minor injuries. The 64-year-old female driver was taken to hospital as a precaution. Last night, it was claimed that a collision with a parked car helped to prevent even more casualties.
The owner said: “My car is a write-off but it stopped the people walking behind it from being hit. It was an awful sight to see. The pedestrians were on the pavement and in bushes.
“Four bringing up the rear were physically unharmed.
“My car took the brunt of the impact after the first seven casualties.”
Another witness said: “It was devastating to watch it unfold. It was like slow motion but really it was over in seconds. If it hadn’t been for it hitting a parked car there would have been more people injured.”
Police have made a plea for witnesses to contact them.
