A heartbreaking video shows a four-year-old boy struggling to push his mum’s stretcher after a hospital porter refused to help because his family were too poor to give a tip.
The sad scene happened at Deoria hospital in Uttar Pradesh, India, and has since gone viral on social media with many people outraged by the alleged incident of “medical apathy”, timesnownews.com reports.
In the clip, the tot does his best to push the stretcher down the hospital corridor while a female family member helps him from the front.
The youngster, wearing denim shorts and a green top, can barely reach the handle and has to reach over his arms as he pushes the hefty stretcher down the hall.
His mum, lying motionless, was suffering from broken bones.
The hospital sacked the staff member who refused to push the stretcher for free, according to local media.
Predictably, the video has sparked a backlash against the hospital.
Writing on Twitter, one person said: “People think kindness is a one-time task.
“If u want to be humane u need to be kind till one die. Otherwise u r selfish n inhumane.”
A second tweeted: “Shame on us that in spite of this s*** that we go through on a daily basis, we still elect good for nothing governments.
“We insult ourselves daily cos we aren’t capable of electing someone sensible.”
“Shame,” wrote a third, while other people left crying emojis.
This comes after a man died from coronavirus in India after his family allegedly unplugged his ventilator to turn on the air conditioning.
The man was being treated in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at MBS Hospital in Rajasthan, northern India.
His relatives came to visit him on Monday night and found his condition deteriorated when they turned off his ventilator and it ran out of battery power.
Doctors performed CPR but could not save the man.
The family then reportedly verbally abused the hospital staff after his death.
