A man wrapped himself in the Union Jack flag while setting fire to the EU flag in the street as a crowd of people watched. Crowds have started to gather at Parliament Square in London ahead of the planned Brexit Celebration later this evening. The footage comes as the UK flag has been taken down at the EU Council building in Brussels.
The Government will also mark Brexit with a “commemorative light display” in Downing Street just before 11pm, with a countdown clock projected on to its black bricks from 10pm.
Union Jack flags will line Parliament Square The Mall, while Government buildings in Whitehall will be lit up in red, white and blue.
The European Union’s flag was removed from outside the British embassy to the EU in Brussels on Friday, hours before the United Kingdom was set to formally leave the EU after 47 years of membership.
A man reached out of a window on the first floor of the building and pulled in the official symbol of the EU, a circle of 12 stars on a blue background, leaving only Britain’s Union Jack flying on the flagpole.
