Thomas told CNN Travel that the airline slid down the rankings due to a “combination of fleet age [average 13.8 years] and the number of incidents… which were not life-threatening but there were a lot of them compared to other airlines of similar size.”
Despite not making it into this year’s top 20, British Airways still maintains a seven-star rating on AirlineRatings website.
In addition to ranking the safest airlines for 2020, AirlineRatings also highlighted the safest low-cost airlines for the year. They are: Air Arabia, Flybe, Frontier, HK Express, IndiGo, Jetblue, Volaris, Vueling, Westjet and Wizz Air.
The website launched in 2013 and rates the safety of 409 airlines using its seven-star rating system and has been used by millions of passengers from 195 countries.
