Call of Duty Modern Warfare update news
UPDATE TWO: Following a longer wait than usual, the new Call of Duty Modern Warfare Playlist update has been released on PS4, Xbox One and PC. Full patch notes have been shared and confirm the promised 1V1 Rust and NVG Reinforce modes are available to try out today.
Playlist Update for Call of Duty Modern Warfare includes the following:
- Removed 2XP from playlists
- Added 1v1 Rust (“1v1 Me Bro!”)
- Added Rust 24/7 and Shipment 24/7 into one playlist (“Flotation Oxidation”)
- Added NVG Reinforce
- Added Tavorsk District back into Ground War rotation
Further changes could be made to COD this week, however, it doesn’t look like the new Battle Royale Warzone Mode is scheduled to launch in the coming days.
ORIGINAL: This week will see a new Call of Duty Modern Warfare update released on PS4, Xbox One and PC. It’s unclear if there will be a large COD download to install like last week, although it seems unlikely. From what has been shared so far, developers Infinity Ward will be launching a new mode, along with a new Double XP event.
This latest patch won’t be as expansive as the launch of Modern Warfare Season 2 but it does promise to include some new stuff to check out.
A 1v1 playlist change looks set to be released for the new Rust map, although Activision has not shared a release date for this change.
The only indication of timing is that the Double XP event will start on Thursday, February 20, 2020. So this new Call of Duty update could still arrive later today, Wednesday, or Thursday.
A message from Activision also confirms that Reinforce mode will be part of this week’s playlist tweaks and will be available to play on all platforms.
“Season Two brought Rust and Atlas Superstore to the battlefield, and this week even more modes arrive alongside a weekend of Double Weapon XP,” the message from Activision explains.
“Bravo Six, Going Dark. Don your night vision goggles and alert your senses to effectively terminate the opposition in Reinforce a hybrid objective game mode.
“Now live, find your partner and enter Gunfight Tournaments. 32 players and 16 teams compete for rewards like in-game customization items, XP, and more.
“The tournament is a single-elimination bracket with standard Gunfight rules. Test your skills here and see if you can come out on top.
“For those that purchased the Battle Pass Bundle, the upcoming Double Weapon XP weekend is the perfect opportunity to level up your Grau 5.56.
“All players can equip the weapon of their choice and earn Double Weapon XP from February 20 at 10 AM PT to February 24 at 10 AM PT. Unlock all those attachments during the weekend, then craft your perfect weapon in Gunsmith.”
Reinforce mode looks set to be the main change coming with this new Season 2 update.
For those who don’t remember, Reinforce starts with three flags around the map. Players rush to capture flags to gain ground and position for their team.
If you are killed, you will enter spectator mode to cheer on your teammates, however, things change If your team captures a flag, as all teammates in spectator mode will respawn and rejoin the match.
Revived teammates will respawn near the flag that was captured, making some interesting clashes and changes.
According to Activision, you can win the round multiple ways:
- Capture and secure all three flags at once
- Hold the most flags when the timer ends
- Eliminate all enemy players
“Each round win nets your team a point, and the first team to four points wins the game. If a draw is reached in a single round, both teams are awarded a point.”
While this looks interesting, this week’s Call of Duty Modern Warfare update doesn’t look set to include the new Battle Royale Mode.
The latest news suggests that this won’t be ready to launch until early March, and will be available on PS4, Xbox One and PC. Activision has yet to share its plans for this new mode, which is reportedly called Call of Duty Warzone.
