A new Call of Duty Modern Warfare update is available to download now on PS4, Xbox One and PC.
And included in this free install is plenty of new content to keep fans busy over the coming weeks.
Activision confirmed before its release that they had plans to bring back classic maps and game modes.
And they also dropped a few hints about what was being planned for COD Modern Warfare Special Ops.
Available under the name Co-Op in the main menu, this reimagining of Special Ops connects multiple Operations together to continue the story of the game’s Campaign.
Operations revolve around a strike-team of four players working in tandem to complete the mission however they see fit.
Meanwhile, Special Ops also includes Missions, which are more structured experiences similar to the kind of stuff found in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 or Call of Duty: MW3.
Activision has also added Classic Special Ops, which are shorter experiences that should feel familiar to veterans of the COD franchise.
Special Ops has its own story and today’s update has added to that with new operations and classic special ops experiences.
This is where the story starts in Special Ops: “The city of Verdansk has been taken over by a greater evil.
“Indiscriminately wiping out all who try to stop their corrupt dealings, a global terror organization has gained a surplus of access to funding, intelligence, hardware, and weapons, some of which could threaten the entire world.
“Despite their differences, Kate Laswell of the CIA and FSB Sergeant Kamarov have agreed to align the Allegiance and Coalition operators to form one global task force: Armistice.”
And today’s Call of Duty Modern Warfare has provided the next instalment, named Operation Strongbox.
“The second phase of Armistice’s plans to destroy Al-Qatala’s financial support involves destroying everything that “The Banker” has holed up in his vault,” Activision confirms today in a new message.
“Conduct the most badass bank heist by using stolen crypto keys to break into his bank, crack open the vault, and escape the premises with enough cash to put “The Banker” out of business.”
On top of this, COD fans will also notice the return of two classic Special Ops missions which can be played today:
Classic Special Ops – Bomb Squad: Forces that are still loyal to General Barkov have planted explosives around the city of Al-Raab, Urzikstan. With the help of a helicopter for infiltration and exfiltration, your team must defuse these IEDs before they detonate and wipe out the city. Succeed, and you will not only save many innocent lives, but also deal a critical blow to the General’s stragglers.
Classic Special Ops – Disinform: Al-Qatala insurgents have attacked the fallen US Embassy to steal classified intel. Your mission is to protect the intel by eliminating all hostile forces, transferring the classified data, and moving to exfil for a helo extraction. Battle against the Al-Qatala militant forces and secure the intelligence before it falls into the wrong hands.
