Call of Duty Modern Warfare and Warzone Season 5 is about to begin on PS4, Xbox One and PC.
While the new Call of Duty season has an August 5 release date for fans living in the UK, some US fans will be able to start playing on August 4.
That’s because according to the install time for the recently released Call of Duty Season 5 patch on PS4, the new season will go live at 7am BST on August 5 in the UK, and 11pm PDT on August 4 for fans in the US.
As previously reported, the new Call of Duty update – marked as update 1.24 – is out now to pre-load on PS4. The Xbox One and PC update will go live when the new season begins in full on August 5.
It shouldn’t come as a surprise to find out that the new Season 5 update is a big one, weighing in at 36GB on PS4.
On the plus side, the Call of Duty Warzone and Modern Warfare file size will actually be reduced following the latest install.
That’s according to a recent post by Activision: “Season 5 is coming soon, and it’s big. With the update, we’re including all the new content for the season as well as optimising our asset packs.
“This means the download will be big, but the overall size of the game will actually shrink on your consoles after you download the patch, even though we’re adding a bunch of new content for the season.
“It’s a priority for us to keep working on reducing the overall size of MW & WZ on your hard drives, but at the same time also delivering new seasons for everyone to enjoy. We’ll continue to work on this and keep pushing space reductions out with future updates.”
As for Season 5 content, the latest update introduces a host of new features, including new maps and locations.
Based on the recently released Season 5 trailer, fans can expect two new multiplayer maps for Modern Warfare, including Petrov Oil Rig and Suldal Harbor.
There’s also a new Ground War map taking place in the Verdansk International Airport, as well as a Gunfight Map called Livestock.
As for Warzone, the big news is that the Stadium is finally opening its doors for some multiplayer mayhem, alongside a new train.
“The stadium opens. The train arrives. And the battle expands,” reads the official description. “Season Five kicks off in Warzone and Modern Warfare on August 5.”
New operators will also be coming to the game as part of Season 5, including Rozlin ‘Roze’ Helms, Velikan, and Marcus ‘Lerch’ Ortega.
These highly skilled specialists are part of the new Shadow Company faction, and will be available in Warzone and Modern Warfare.
Needless to say, fans will also be able to unlock a host of new reward items by purchasing the Season 5 Battle Pass and completing various challenges.
