Carol Kirkwood fury: How BBC weather star was forced to intervene in ex-colleague row

Carol is part of the team producing the nation’s most watched morning show and alongside hosts like Dan Walker and Louise Minchin, has become a household name. Their warm chemistry and informative structure has won the hearts of viewers, and she has been a staple of the show since 1999. But in 2016, Carol was embroiled in controversy after she and then-BBC business journalist Steph reportedly fell out after the weather presenter was compared to a pig.

Dan, who had just joined the ‘BBC Breakfast’ team, forced the pair to speak out regarding the spat by claiming “some people think you have fallen out”.

Responding to this, Steph said: “Oh no!”

Dan continued: “So we thought why don’t you hand over to Carol with the weather and make sure that it’s all very friendly and lovely.”

Steph then addressed the weather presenter by saying: “Carol, gorgeous one. You know I love you.

“I have to say, thank you for all the biscuit crumbs that were all over the set that I had to sweep up before I started.”

Laughing, Dan said to Steph: “You could never be any good at the weather like Carol.”

Carol then joined in on the banter, by adding: “What a fabulous introduction! I think you should do it everyday actually, Steph.”

The incident which raised fears of a fall-out came earlier that year after Carol was doing a live report from North Yorkshire.

While doing the segment, Carol was surrounded by a huge pack of animals, all cheekily nibbling at the presenter’s Wellington Boots.

Making light of the situation, Steph said: “This reminds me of when you’ve got a packet of biscuits in your pocket and you see Carol Kirkwood.”

But Carol then hilariously snapped back: “That is outrageous! Let me tell you, I’ve been on holiday many times with Steph, I’ve seen her feet and these pigs are taking their lives in their hands!”

The encounter ended, when then-host Jon Kay joked: “Steph said she’s consulting her lawyers at the moment.”
