Casualty revealed a big secret about paramedic Lev Malinovsky (Uril Emil) tonight.
Lev was forced to confront his difficult past and viewers learned a whole lot more about his complex backstory.
The medic was called out to a patient called Evgeny, who had been stabbed, and he was delighted to find out he is a fellow Russian.
However, as the pair bonded over their heritage, Lev was plagued by dark memories from his childhood.
Lev was forced to reflect on his painful past when he and Evgeny begin to swap stories.
As the pair connected about their days in Russia, Lev was disturbed to remember a time when he protected his young friend from bullying, only to be scolded by an older boy for making himself a target.
It was made clear throughout the episode that Lev’s childhood was far from happy.
In one flashback scene, a young Lev was told by his friend that he is leaving Russia.
Lev touched his friends face before he punched him and called him a “homosexual”.
Fans of the BBC One show rushed to Twitter after Lev’s outburst with some predicting that the paramedic will come out as gay in the near future.
Taking to Twitter, one fan penned: “Literally did not see that lev storyline coming whatsoever but i’m here for it.”
Another added: “I did not see that Lev storyline coming at all. Uriel Emil done a great job this episode. Flashbacks were really sad.”
A third guessed: “Oh my god. Is Lev gay? He isn’t homophobic, he’s in the closet.”
While a fourth said: “I have a feeling Lev is gay.”
Lev has become an integral character on Casualty since joining the BBC medical drama as a paramedic last year.
The mysterious newcomer was introduced as a replacement for Iain Dean (Michael Stevenson) and viewers have since seen his family become a bigger part of his story.
Earlier this year, he and his wife Faith Cadogan (Kirsty Mitchell) were dealt a cruel blow when they discovered their son Luka (Tom Mulheron) had a brain tumour.
As the Lev and Faith continue to put on brave faces, it seems the father-of-three is riddled by his tragic past.
Casualty spoilers have recently revealed that there is another twist in store for the Malinovsky family.
Casualty continues on BBC One on Saturday at 8.25pm
