Chelsea get the green light to make Kai Havertz move as Frank Lampard prepares bid

Chelsea have received a major boost in their bid to make Bayer Leverkusen play-maker Kai Havertz their third big-name signing of the summer. The German international has an agreement with the Bundesliga outfit that they will allow him to leave after helping them qualify for the Europa League.

Havertz has appeared on the radar of the new Premier League champions Liverpool, Manchester United, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid as well as The Blues.

But the 21-year-old who netted 15 goals for Leverkusen this season has told the club that he only wants to move to the Premier League and isn’t going to consider anywhere else.

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has already paid out £89million on RB Leipzig hit-man Timo Werner and Ajax star Hakim Ziyech.

And the club are busy wheeling and dealing to make room for the arrival of the £90m rated Havertz with several departures expected to take place.

Marcos Alonso, Michy Batshuayi, Tiemoue Bakayoko, Kenedy and Danny Drinkwater are among the players who are likely to be shipped out.

While Inter Milan have opened talks with The Blues about signing Italian international left-back Emerson Palmieri.

Havertz would be the jewel in the crown of what looks set to be an impressive summer of transfer activity for Chelsea.

Leverkusen managing director Rudi Voller has admitted the club will not stand in the attacking midfielder’s way if an acceptable offer arrives.

“We have our ideas, we know what he can do,” Voller admitted.

“I personally hope that he stays one more year.

“We have an agreement: if it fits, he can go this summer.”

Werner opted to ditch RB Leipzig’s Champions League campaign, which restarts next month, to seal the switch to Chelsea on July 1.
