Claire Sweeney convinced she had coronavirus well before official UK lockdown

Former Brookside actress Claire Sweeney has confessed that she is sure she had already had coronavirus by the time the UK went into lockdown and well before the first official case was recorded in the country.

The star spoke on Loose Women today via video link after both she and her son fell ill over the Christmas period.

Claire, 49, explained that she had symptoms which she would eventually learn lined up with the coronavirus, however she is yet to have an antibody test.

“I was working and ploughed through, never missed a show, and I literally got wiped off my feet.

“The only way to describe it is like a bus had hit me.

“I was very ill and my boy was very ill and it frightened me.”

She added: “At the time, I just thought I had a severe bought of flu.”

But now Claire thinks she actually had coronavirus, which would have been three months before the UK went into lockdown.

She went on: “At the beginning, I was due to go to New York in March.

“I remember the taxi pulling up outside and I wouldn’t go. It was two weeks before the lockdown and I had a feeling this was going to get worse and I didn’t go.”

She continued: “I went into lockdown a week before the official lockdown. You start to get used to it going on around you.”

Loose Women airs weekdays at 12.30pm on ITV
