Conor McGregor has got fans thinking he’s gearing up for a UFC comeback thanks to his new buzz cut.
Former two-weight champion McGregor showed off his extreme shaved head in gym pictures that went viral on social media.
The Irishman is looking in good shape – and fans took his new look as a clue that he’s set to do a U-turn on his retirement earlier this year.
McGregor’s close-cropped cut is the same one he sported when he lost to Nate Diaz in 2016 before avenging the defeat five months later.
He also went ultra-short before coming out of retirement in 2017 to fight Floyd Mayweather in a money-spinning crossover bout.
‘The Notorious’ announced he was ending his career in the octagon this summer after the disruption caused by Covid-19 caused mayhem with the UFC calendar.
However, it was the third time in four years that McGregor had announced his retirement, with the 32-year-old beat Donald Cerrone inside 40 seconds in his latest comeback in January this year.
And McGregor’s new cut has got fans excited that he will be back in the octagon some time soon.
After his gym selfie was shared on Twitter, one fan responded by saying, “This is the dangerous Conor, the one that rose up and conquered the UFC”, while another said “Bald Conor is a beast”.
Another posted: “You go back and watch the early fights. He moved like a panther-gorilla and doled out some damage. Jesus, when i think of it…. Max Holloway is still looking for his jaw.”
Not everybody was impressed, though. One follower replied with a picture of McGregor’s nemesis, Khabib Nurmagomedov, also with a shaved head, saying: “Just because you shave your head like the GOAT doesn’t mean that you become the GOAT.”
If the former UFC featherweight and lightweight champion does reverse his retirement decision, there will be a clamour for a rematch with Nurmagomedov after McGregor tapped out against the Russian in 2018.
