Coronation Street newbie Kel Allen may be on our screens now as the feisty Laura Neelan, but she made her first appearance a few years ago as a completely different character.
Back in 2018, Kel appeared in five episodes as Lulu Lockett, the manager of strip club Tassels, where Bethany Platt (Lucy Fallon) worked.
Speaking to Daily Star Online, Kel revealed her audition for boss lady Lulu didn’t get off to a good start – but it clearly didn’t matter.
The actress told us: “With Lulu Lockett, I remember rushing into the audition and there’d been a big accident on the M60 and I was like, I’ve got loads of time, then I remembered I had to get changed for my audition.
“I ended up running in with my Doc Martens on, a skirt and a blouse to try and be the owner of this Tassels nightclub and I was supposed to put my stilettos on – I left those in the car, rushing.
“I sat down, took a deep breath in the room, ready to read to the casting director. Took a deep breath, breathed in and my button pinged off the top.”
She laughed: “Maybe that’s what secured me the role.”
Previously, Kel appeared in fellow ITV soap Emmerdale as an escort called Tiff, who was hired to take Lachlan White’s virginity.
And it seems she took that audition so seriously that a builder mistook her for a real hooker when she left.
The blonde told us: “I had an audition for Emmerdale to play an escort, not a prostitute, called Tiff.
“You generally go with a tiny hint of what they should be or look like, the other girls looked like ladies of the night, shall we say.
“On the way out a builder asked me, ‘How much?’ and I thought, ‘I’ve nailed the look!'”
She went on: “I literally had a run of being cast as hookers, escorts, lap dancers, madams.
“The owner of Tassels nightclub, that was a better role ’cause she was an MD of a sex club rather than just dancing in one.
“I didn’t know whether it was a compliment or should it be giving me a complex that people were seeing me in that way,” she joked.
Coronation Street currently airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm on ITV
