During ITV’s Peston programme Anushka Asthana analysed data collected by J.L Partners regarding the lockdown situation in the UK. The poll showed that the majority of Britons back the current lockdown measures and would support additional restrictions if needed. However, when the suggested new measures became more divisive, such as restrictions that depended on age, support reduced.

Ms Asthana said: “We have got some exclusive polling for J.L Partners that shows that people now want to see what planning is taking place for the next stage of this crisis.
“53 percent want plans to be shared and 40 percent do not.
“That number gets even higher for younger people but that is not to say that people want all the restrictions to be lifted.
“In fact, there is widespread support for some to continue or even new ones to be introduced.

“This shows various measures that people were asked about with the level of support in green and opposition in red.
“The one in the middle is the idea of wearing masks in public, 71 percent of us would be prepared to do that compared to just 16 percent who would be reluctant.”
She continued: “In terms of getting a vaccine, a vast majority of 80 percent of people would be happy to be vaccinated which would give us that herd immunity.
“As for an NHS app just a couple of months ago that would have been unbelievably controversial, now 59 percent of people would do it and it is even higher for younger people.
