Coronation Street cast member Kimberly Hart-Simpson joined the soap recently as sex worker Nicky, who has been spending plenty of time with Daniel Osbourne (Rob Mallard).
However Corrie fans could have seen her onscreen a number of times before, as she auditioned for other roles, but wasn’t successful.
Speaking to Daily Star Online, blonde bombshell Kimberly, 33, said: “I was trying to look through all my backlog of my Coronation Street auditions and I could’ve been there for weeks.
“I remember the latest one I went for was Lolly, which I think was Kate’s friend at the time. That was the latest one I went for.
“I know at one point I was in talks or my name was discussed for Maddie, but then she was gonna be a lot younger and I was slightly over the age threshold for that one.”
Lolly, who appeared in the soap last year, ended up being played by Katherine Pearce.
And Maddie, who appeared on the soap between 2013 and 2015, was played by Amy James-Kelly.
Kimberly, who also runs her own clothing label, continued: “There was also quite a lot of one or two episodes.
“I did this very bold thing, and I don’t know if I’d recommend this to loads of other people to do, but I started saying to my agent I won’t go for small parts any more there.
“I’ll do it any other place – one, two episodes, anywhere else – but Corrie, it’s either we go in, or we’re out. It had to be something substantial for me.”
Kimberly said her first audition was “probably a bin lady”, explaining: “It wasn’t big, probably a small part.
“I remember doing that weird thing we do as actors, tagging ourselves [on social media] at the place, but now I don’t want anyone to know in case I don’t get it.
“It’s completely different now, I’m super scared, but it was the old ITV [back then], I remember that.”
She continued: “There’s been so many that I’ve gone up for now. I don’t remember the first one though.”
Kimberly explained that she knows Sally Carman, who plays Abi Franklin, and Peter Ash, who plays Paul Foreman, after working with them previously.
She said: “I’ve been friends with Sally for years and she’s been up for several screen tests as well.
“We both got told all the time it will happen. We were like, ‘Come on!’ Every time we went for one, ‘Going to Corrie again.’
“Peter Ash I’ve worked with for years as well.
“We all know, when they say we see something in you just wait, they mean it. But you don’t feel it because you think it might be a pie.”
Kimberly, who has previously appeared in Hollyoaks, said it has been “literally a decade” since she started auditioning at Coronation Street.
She told us: “I graduated when I was 22. I’m 33 [now].
“I was auditioning from the start. I’m not saying it’s consecutively, every other week, it never was, it never is like that in Soap World.
“But it’s certainly something that has been ongoing and the second I graduated from drama school, emailing them, emailing them, ’cause I knew – that’s where I was meant to be.”
Coronation Street continues Monday at 7.30pm on ITV
