According to cruise.co.uk there is a nickname crew will use if they spot a stingy cruiser.
They will call that person a “banana,” the website revealed.
Passengers will never guess what the staff mean when they hear this fruity nickname, making it the perfect code among employees.
According to crew-center.com – a website run by ex-crew members sharing their experience of life and work on cruise ships – the term “banana” actually has a few uses.
“This word is used quite often by the crew members and means bad time, bad feeling, or disappointment,” said the site.
However, it’s important to check how the cruise line you are travelling with manage tips.

Adam Coulter, UK Managing Editor, Cruise Critic revealed passengers could end up overpaying.
“These days, most cruise lines add to your cruise bill an auto-gratuity or service fee that covers your cabin steward and dining staff,” Coulter told Express.co.uk.
“Yet, more and more, the slip you have to sign indicates a space for an additional gratuity.
“You’re always welcome to give an extra tip for outstanding service, but you shouldn’t feel pressured to give more than the auto-gratuity if it’s not warranted.
“Uninformed travellers see the blank line on the bill and add 15 to 20 percent without thinking – and end up tipping double.”
There are other ways to save money when it comes to drinks. For instance, it’s advisable to steer clear of the “Drink of the Day” if you want to avoid overspending.
Simon Hoe, Global Head of Marketing at Cruise1st, told Express.co.uk: “Most lines also have a Drink of the Day, which is pricier because of the souvenir glass they’re served in.”
“Simply ask for it to be served in a regular glass, and you’ll save a little. It always pays to inquire, so don’t feel like you’re being forward with some of your requests.”
