Customer handed eye-watering bill after misreading menu at Gordon Ramsay steak

A meat lover was left feeling like a ‘donut’ for ‘f***ing up’ his order at Gordon Ramsay’s steakhouse – and accidentally racking up an enormous bill.

The restaurant diner has been left with a light wallet after he “didn’t read the menu carefully” and spent a month’s rent on some meat.

But the hungry clutz says he has no regrets – despite the heart-stopping final bill.

The man was visiting Atlantic City in the US with his girlfriend and booked an outdoor table at Gordon Ramsay Steak at Harrah’s.

He says he planned to splurge on some Wagyu beef, but saw that the “real deal” Triple Seared Japanese A5 was on the menu – also known as Kobe and widely considered to be the finest cut available.

The man said he thought Gordon Ramsay would call him a ‘donut’

The man said he was surprised to see that it appeared to be cheaper than the American Wagyu, saying it cost about £26 for 4oz, compared to about £59 for 8oz of Wagyu.

“So I’m a big guy, I’m hungry, so I order 12 oz of Kobe,” he said. “The steak was amazing. I’m in my 40s and only had Wagyu before in my life just twice.

“I had never had real deal Kobe. It was like nothing else you’ll ever have. Melt in your mouth delicious. We also ordered a couple of sides, appetizers, and my girlfriend had chef Ramsay’s famous beef wellington for the first time ever.

“All in all an amazing meal and we were glad we could support the restaurant and its staff during these challenging times. And I still couldn’t believe Kobe was cheaper than Wagyu!

“Or so I thought.”

Kobe beef is one of the most expensive cuts in the world

It turns out he had misread the menu slightly, and the beef he had ordered was actually £26  per  ounce with a minimum order size of 4oz – not £26 for 4 ounces, as you can see on the  online menu here.

He said: “I had to read the menu again when the bill came, because for 2 people, the bill was over $ 600.00!!”

Taking full responsibility and thankfully being able to find humour in the costly mistake, he said: “I wish Chef Ramsay was there to come out and call me a donut for f***ing this up lol.

“I enjoyed the hell out of it. No ragrets baby!”

After sharing the experience on Reddit, one person commented to say: “What you bought was a $ 600 story. For the rest of your life, every time someone says ‘this is good steak’ you can say ‘Yeah, but..'”

Another wrote: “Thank God it was delicious but that bill… ouch.”
