Dele Alli insists he and those he lives with are “okay” despite being shaken up by a “horrible experience” after being robbed at knifepoint within his own home in the early hours of Wednesday morning. The Tottenham midfielder was punched in the face after robbers broke into his home.

The 24-year-old is in lockdown with his girlfriend Ruby Mae as well as his brother Harry Hickford, his brother’s girlfriend and a long-term friend during the coronavirus pandemic and they were all downstairs during the break-in.

Despite being hit, Alli did not suffer any severe injuries during the incident, which was captured on CCTV and sent to the police.

Two men wearing balaclavas robbed Alli of multiple watches and jewellery at just after midnight before fleeing from his Hadley Wood home in north London.

And in a Twitter post after the robbery, Alli said: “Thank you for all the messages. Horrible experience but we’re all okay now. Appreciate the support.”

The Metropolitan Police have opened an inverstigation and said: “Police were called at approximately 00:35 on Wednesday 13 May to reports of a robbery at a residential address in Barnet.

“Two males gained entry to the property and stole items of jewellery, including watches, before fleeing.

“One male occupant of the property, aged in his 20s, suffered a minor facial injury after being assaulted. He did not require hospital treatment.

“No arrests; enquiries into the circumstances continue.”

A Spurs spokesperson added: “We have been offering our support to Dele and those isolating with him.

“We encourage anyone with any information to help the police with their investigation to come forward.”

Jamie Redknapp said on Sky Sports: “It’s disgusting that this can happen, I hope everyone’s okay.

“Unfortunately this is sometimes the world we live in and players now – this is not just happening to footballers, it’s happening everywhere right now – you have to be so careful, have as much security as you can and be as vigilant as you can.

“It’s a horrible story that we don’t like to hear about.”

Alli has returned to Tottenham training this week as Spurs prepare for the hopeful return of the Premier League next month.

Players have been reporting to the club’s training base this week in blocks of four or five, all separately due to social distancing measures and all being given one pitch each.

Spurs boss Jose Mourinho is one of several Premier League managers who believes the league should take more time before resuming the 2019-20 season.

There are 92 fixtures still to play in the English top flight, which has not played any matches since March 9 due to the United Kingdom’s lockdown.

Mourinho is thought to want at least a month of preparation for his players to be fully fit after two months of inaction.

That means the league’s Project Restart plan could now be pushed back a week, with the new restart date on June 19.
