A dog owner says he witnessed his pet “lie” to another dog in the park to cleverly get his ball back, and other owners say their pets do the same.

The owner and his dog visited a local park and this is where the man claims he saw his dog carry out a smart move of “deception,” proving that dogs are more intelligent than we may think.

In a post on Reddit, the owner described what he saw – admitting he had never seen anything like it.

He says his dog behaved in a way he hadn’t seen before in order to get to play with his favourite toy and people in the comments concluded that his pet was “clearly ready for a job in sales.”

He says while they were at the park, his dog lost possession of his favourite ball and it was quickly snagged by another dog, who he refers to as Richard.

He watched his doggo go into his ‘thinking expression’ before fetching a stick and playing with it as enthusiastically as he could right in front of Richard, bouncing it around in a way which was “not how he plays with toys at all.”

The owner wrote: “After 20 seconds of this act, Richard with the popular ball takes notice of this apparently fantastic new toy, drops the ball AND MY GUY BOLTS AND SNAGS THE POPULAR BALL with zero hesitation, leaving this formerly lucky dog with nothing but a lame stick that none of them actually wanted. Did my dog just f***ing lie to Richard?”

As others told him his smart dog ‘absolutely did’, it turns out that dogs are pulling this prank on the regular.

One commented: “Both of my dogs have figured out the same trick: if the other has a toy or stick they want, they’ll look out the window and excitedly bark. When the other drops what they’re doing to join the barking, then the big fat liar dog immediately goes in for the toy.”

Another replied: “I used to know a Labrador that would pretend someone was at the front door, barking and getting all excited. When the other dog got up to check it out she would steal his seat.”
