Car parking charges are in place across many of the UK’s largest regions with parking spaces regularly charging over £100 for a full day in a bay. However, this was made worst for one motorist in Glasgow who was forced to pay almost double his original parking charge after a car park mistake.

However, despite having a ticket that was purchased for an entire day, the road user was told he had to pay another £8 for four hours of extra cover.

The affected motorist said: “He said you need to get another ticket because you’ve left. I paid £11.10 to park there all day and then had to pay another £8 for four hours.”

Speaking to Lincolnshire Live, he added: “It’s not the first time I’ve come across this. It’s happened in car parks in Loughborough, Leicester, Louth and Hull.

“To be honest I think it’s ridiculous – it costs £11 to park there all day. I don’t see how they can justify it – it’s a piece of concrete, not a multi-storey. But I’m better off being safe than sorry in getting the new ticket than however much it is for the fine.”

Earlier this year NCP customers were back in the spotlight after a computer glitch left motorists trapped inside their vehicles.

Thousands of motorists were affected by the fault in February which left vehicles stuck inside the barriers across the firm’s 500 sites.

A similar fault occurred in March 2017 as thousands were trapped from leaving the car parks because of similar technical glitches.

Analysis from the RAC Foundation found private parking fines will be boosted by 26 percent in 2019/20 to hit a UK total of £8.6million.

The increase will see tickets issued by private firms at least once every four seconds in a UK parking crackdown.

The data revealed it was the 14th consecutive year parking rickets have increased and will be an increase on the £6.81million worth of fines issued last year.

The British Parking Association (BPA) believes the growth in car ownership and the number of vehicles on the roads has placed extra demand on parking facilities.
