EastEnders couple Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) and Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean) are once again on the rocks.
Though the estranged pair recently reconciled with plans to take over the Queen Vic from the Cater family, Sharon stunned her partner this evening when she revealed she wanted to keep baby Kayden after all.
In tonight’s visit to Albert Square, Sharon tried to convince Phil that they could all live together as a family, though he had his doubts about whether he could stomach raising Sharon and Keanu Taylor’s child.
“Phil, I’m his mum, he needs me,” she begged.
“Just give us a chance to be a family, again. Please!”
Karen Taylor (Lorraine Stanley) was also struggling about having to give the newborn back to his mum during the handover, though she barely managed to keep composure.
Following a commemorative ceremony for Denny’s memorial bench, Phil did initially try to bond with the child, but ultimately admitted that reminders of Keanu were too painful for him.
Yet, Sharon made it clear she would not be giving up another child when Phil ordered her to give Kayden back to the Taylors if she wanted to make things work with him.
Phil was furious over a tearful Sharon’s refusal to choose him over the baby, so he demanded: “Get out of my house, and take that thing with you!”
EastEnders fans rushed to their keyboards to slam Phil for making Sharon choose between him and her newborn son.
Taking to Twitter, one fan penned: “Ruthless Phil.”
A second agreed: “Phil as selfish as ever I see.”
Another added: “Family is everything like Kayden is for Sharon, bless her for choosing her child.”
A third posted: “Really Phil? A mother should always chose her children.”
A fourth pointed out: “Phil looked after Jay and he’s not a Mitchell, he’s a Brown and his Dad was Jase. But because Kayden is Keanu’s son, he’s not willing to look after him? A bit of a crappy thing to do Phil. Also, calling Kayden “that thing”? That’s a real jerkish thing to say.”
Is this the final straw for Walford’s most notorious on-off couple?
Fans will have to want and see if the couple get back together or if Phil decides to buy the Vic on his own.
EastEnders continues on BBC One on Tuesday at 7.30pm
