Elvis Presley was serving in the US Armed Forces when he first met Priscilla Presley in 1959. Despite their age gap, they later struck up a romance and, eight years after they met, they were married in Las Vegas, Nevada. They welcomed their daughter Lisa Marie Presley the following year.
Their relationship soon disintegrated, however, and the couple filed for legal separation in 1972.
They were divorced in 1973 but remained close afterwards, even leaving the courthouse on the day of their divorce hand-in-hand.
The King and Priscilla shared custody of their daughter Lisa Marie and maintained a good friendship until his death.
Elvis died on August 16, 1977, after he was found unconscious on the floor of his bathroom by his then fiancée Ginger Alden.

Priscilla’s last conversation with her famous ex-husband was just days before he died.
In 1978, she spoke out about their relationship in a candid interview with Rona Barrett.
Rona asked the singer whether, if she ever had a problem, she could go to Elvis for help and whether he would listen to what was troubling her.
Pausing for thought, Priscilla replied: “I very rarely went to him with any problems.

“It was a very strange relationship. It was a love, but—” she tailed off.
“I never wanted to upset him because he took it so hard,” she explained. “If I were to come to him with a problem, it would hurt him deeply. So I worked it out myself.”
When the interviewer remarked that that sounded “tough”, Priscilla laughed: “It was tough. But you make it and you’re able to weight what you want most.
“Elvis’ happiness meant a lot to me.”

After giving an insight into the marriage she had with the Hound Dog singer, Priscilla spoke out about whether he had changed after the birth of their daughter Lisa Marie.
“The father image came out in him like I can’t tell you,” she recalled. “I just never thought that… You see him on stage and you see him with a baby — how he handed it was beautiful.”
Asked what one thing she would want Lisa Marie to remember about her father, Priscilla replied thoughtfully: “I think his humbleness toward people.”
Elsewhere, Lisa Marie, who was just nine-years-old when Elvis died, previously spoke out about the last time she spoke to him.
“I don’t like talking about this,” she told Radar Online. “It was August 16th, at four a.m. I was supposed to be asleep, actually.
“He found me, you know, ‘Go back to bed,’” she remembered. “I said, ‘Okay.’
“I think he kissed me goodnight. That was the last time I saw him alive.”
It was Elvis’ girlfriend Ginger who discovered him unconscious on the floor of his bathroom that night, but despite an ambulance rushing him to hospital, attempts to revive him were unsuccessful.
