Ex-Queen chaplain blasts ‘too PC’ Anglican church for pandering to transgender agenda 1

He claims Christians who criticise political correctness are too often accused of “thought crime”, which endangers freedom of speech. Dr Ashenden, based at St James’s Palace for a decade before resigning in 2017, was supported by Daily Express columnist and fellow convert Ann Widdecombe. She said: “One of the reasons I left the CofE was because it didn’t seem to know what it thought on anything at all. Nothing has improved since. Indeed it’s worse.”

Dr Ashenden said the Church should be fighting those who actively want to silence Christians but leaders have given in to the “increasingly intense demands of a secular society”.

He highlighted guidance warning CofE schools that boy and girl uniforms might upset transgender pupils and said: “Too often, called upon to defend Christian values, it has remained astonishingly silent. I believe only the Catholic church has the courage, integrity and conviction to hold the Christian ground.”

A CofE spokesman said: “Our thoughts and best wishes are with him as he starts this new chapter.”
