Apple’s FaceTime offers the ability to bring you face-to-face with loved ones, wherever they are in the world. Can you add Mac, iPad and iPhone users to the same group video call?

FaceTime group video chats can include those using Macs, iPads and iPhones – provided they are running the most up-to-date Apple software.

All FaceTime participants need to be using Apple devices – these include: iPhone 6s or later, iPad Pro or later, iPad Air 2, iPad Mini 4 running iOS 12.1.4 or later, or Mac running Mojave 10.14.3 or later.

All participants also need to have FaceTime set up on their devices.

This is could not be easier to arrange: toggle to Settings, FaceTime and ensure the slider beside FaceTime is green.

Recipients not connected to WiFi may need to set their iPhone up to receive FaceTime calls over 4G.

This is easy to do by heading to Settings and Mobile Data. Then simply scroll down to FaceTime and again ensure the slide is coloured green.

Participants need to actively be using their Apple device before a FaceTime call can be placed with them, otherwise they will appear as unavailable on the FaceTime call.

It may be wise to give some prior warning about any impending FaceTime video chat.

How to switch from a regular call to FaceTime on an iPhone:

Look at the call menu that appears when you are on a phone call.

Then tap the FaceTime button to initiate a FaceTime video call.

You can press the Home Button (iPhone 8 and older) or swipe up from the bottom of your screen (iPhone X and newer) to exit the FaceTime app.

Doing this will cause your video to pause, though the other person on the call will still hear your audio.
