1. Truro to Falmouth

Although this is just a 30-minute drive, it’s well worth the journey.

Taking you from the countryside to the coastline, this route will take you through Cornwall’s lesser known landscapes.

The route is around 10 miles but could take longer if you get stuck in traffic.

It’s best to take this route during off-peak times as it can become quite congested.

Falmouth itself is a fantastic destination that’s known for its natural harbour, 16th-century Pendennis Castle and beaches.

2. Roseland Peninsula

The Roseland Peninsula is home to some of the UK’s most idyllic and beautiful countryside.

This is a great route for those who aren’t confident with long distances as you can either stay close to Truro or go further afield to St Mawes.

The route is scenic with lots of narrow country lanes which are great for a leisurely drive.

Some of the recommended routes include Tregony to St Mawes via the A3078.

You can then turn off at either Portloe, Portscatho or Veryan.

The B3289 is also a must-drive.

3. Atlantic Highway – Truro to Bude via A39

This road is definitely not for the faint-hearted.

Stretching all the way from Truro to Bude in north Cornwall, the A39 or “Atlantic Highway” is a long stretch of road that will take you across the county.

The road can be busy and dangerous, so it’s best to approach it with caution.

There are plenty of small villages on the way if you fancy stopping off for some lunch.

The route is around 50 miles and will take around one hour and 20 minutes, depending on whether you hit traffic.

4. Newquay to Padstow

Newquay is just 30 minutes away from Truro but is a completely different scene all together.

Home to the popular Boardmasters festival in the summer, Newquay is popular with surfers, partygoers and beach-lovers.

Just down the coast from Newquay lies Padstow, an adorable town and fishing port.

The town is close to Bodmin and is best known for its impressive surf scene.

Padstow is just 30 minutes outside of Newquay but getting there is a beautiful journey through the countryside and across the Cornish coastline.

5. Truro to St Ives

Lush countryside followed by rich peaks of blue ocean will leave you stunned as you approach the picturesque town of St Ives.

The town is just 40 minutes outside of Truro and is known for its art scene.

If you love art then St Ives is a true haven with its seafront Tate gallery, Barbara Hepworth Museum and Sculpture Garden.

It’s also worth checking out the boat trips that run to Seal Island if you love your wildlife.
