Flight attendants have previously uncovered many different secrets about their experience as a cabin crew member. With hot food options to choose from when on a flight, a flight attendant had revealed how unhealthy plane food may be for you.
Airplane food has a bad reputation for a number of reasons – the way the food is prepared and stores, the environment in which it is served onboard and the flight conditions all combine to affect the way the meals taste.
Unless travelling first class or business, economy travellers will have a very limited choice when it comes to food options.
Writing on a Quora thread, a user who goes by the name of Shreyas P claimed they had been a flight attendant for five major airlines.
They warned that airline means are “very unhealthy,” even if you’ve opted for the raw or vegan option.

The user added: “The food on your tray is prepared not in the gallery but in the aircraft catering which is often done 12 hours before and even days before the aircraft departure.”
If you’re flying overnight or in the morning, the user warned that fliers should be wary of breakfast options.
They said: “The scrambled egg or the omelette that you just had was not only egg but can be a mix of egg and other substitute.”
They also explained that the fruit that sometimes comes with airline breakfasts may still look fresh but it was cut hours before departure.
Apparently cruising at such high altitude can make taste buds and sense of smell go numb compared to on ground.
Shreyas said this is one of the reasons why the cabin crew prefer to bring their own food on board.
The flight attendant said: “A passenger bringing his own food shows a lot of awareness.”
Science has also shown that eating a lot of fat and sugar in the air can leave people feeling bad.

Instead, Melissa Biggs Bradley, founder of luxury air travel firm Indagare, said that fliers should eat something before boarding an aircraft.
This will not only help your body digest the food better than it would at high altitude, but the food produced in the terminals will be more fresh and nutritious than the food found on planes.
Jay Walker, professor of physics at Stanford University suggested opting for a wrap or bread option.
He said: “Sandwiches and wraps can be done fairly well on short-haul flights,” but if you are travelling on a long-haul flight then they tend to be dry as they are made hours before.
This not only can cause food to go off and become bacteria infested, it can also lower the nutritional value in the food, meaning that plane food is unhealthy in more ways than one.
It is advised to be super careful when picking plane food options as you don’t want to risk getting sick.
Food is not the only thing that people have been warned to avoid when flying.
Drinking the water, tea and coffee on an airplane can actually make you sick.
A recent study found that there were microorganisms found in the water tank on various different airlines.
A flight attendant revealed that although the water tanks are cleaned, they are never told how often or how well.
