Frank Warren has responded to Dillian Whyte’s knockout by Alexander Povetkin last weekend.
Whyte was stunned by the Russian in the fifth round at Matchroom’s Fight Camp with the ‘Body Snatcher’ having been pushing for a fight with WBC world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury.
Warren promotes Fury, who is set for a trilogy fight with Deontay Wilder in the coming months.
Plenty had been said by Whyte in the build-up to his fight with Povetkin, that would have seen him be Fury’s mandatory challenger had he won.
Many are hoping Fury will fight Anthony Joshua soon in a bout that would crown an undisputed world heavyweight champion.
And Warren says he is glad there is now no “obstacle” blocking that fight following Whyte’s defeat.
“Many may believe I enjoyed Dillian Whyte’s defeat to Alexander Povetkin last week,” Warren wrote in his latest Daily Star Sport column.
“But it was nothing personal – he was the one who wanted to make it personal – as I was just happy an obstacle was out of the way to make Fury against Joshua.
“Whyte’s team wanted their man to get the mandatory WBC title shot which would have delayed the biggest fight in heavyweight boxing.
“I’m just glad that it is now gone and we can get back to work on making Fury against Joshua should both men win their next fights in December.”
Warren had spoken about setting up a fight for Whyte with Daniel Dubois, though the Matchroom fighter shot down that suggestion.

Before his loss to Povetkin, Whyte said: “Frank needs to stay off the liquor, man. He’s just trying to deviate from the Tyson Fury fight.
“Why would I fight Daniel Dubois when I’m mandatory for the WBC world title? Daniel brings nothing at all to the table.
“There’s no reason for me to fight him.
“They know I love a fight and it doesn’t take much to get me into a fight, so they are just trying to throw some bait out there.”
