Free Google Nest Mini with Spotify: there's VERY bad news for those who want this deal

Earlier this week, Spotify confirmed that Premium subscribers would be able to claim a free Google Nest Mini. For those who aren’t aware, this small doughnut-sized smart speaker is Google’s answer to the Amazon Echo Dot – bringing its voice assistant into your home to play tracks (on Spotify amongst others), queue-up videos on a Chromecast, read out the latest news and weather, order take-aways, and control any smart thermostats or lighting in your home. Usually priced at £49, this is a pretty phenomenal deal.

Spotify opened the offer to Premium subscribers in the UK and Canada. The music streaming service said the deal would be available until the end of September or as long as stocks lasted …and unfortunately, there’s some bad news on that front.

The music streaming service updated an FAQ on Friday morning to confirm that it was shuttering the offer “due to high demand”. Reading between the lines, it seems Spotify subscribers burned though the warehouse of Google Nest Mini units set aside for the deal in a matter of days. It’s unclear whether Spotify ever expected the offer to last the entire month, but running out of stock within four days shows an impressive level of demand.

Spotify hasn’t confirmed whether it plans to bring back the offer with more Nest Mini stock before the end of the month.

“Due to high demand, our Google Nest Mini offer is no longer available. Keep an eye on Spotify.com for more great deals and promotional offers,” the update on the FAQ reads. Thankfully, it sounds like anyone who received an email confirmation about the offer won’t miss out, adding: “If you already have an email about getting your device, click the link there to get started, or click here.”

The deal was only available for those who pay for a Spotify Premium account, which typically costs £9.99 a month for unlimited music and podcast streaming and downloads. If you’re in the middle of a free trial for Spotify Premium, the free Google Nest Mini offer wasn’t available.

Those who were in the middle of a trial could waive the freebie period to jump straight into the paid-for Spotify Premium monthly option to get the Nest Mini – something you really shouldn’t do at the moment, even on the off-chance that Spotify brings back the deal. Subscribers who were members of a family or duo account, only the person who pays the bill will be able to order a free Nest Mini.
