The resulting phases are: New Moon, Waxing Crescent, First Quarter Moon, Waxing Gibbous Moon, Full Moon, Waning Gibbous Moon, Last Quarter Moon and Waning Crescent Moon.
During a New Moon, the Moon is positioned between Earth and the Sun, and it appears to disappear from sight.
During a Full Moon, the Earth is between the Moon and the Sun, and the Moon appears to be fully illuminated.
