Games with Gold July 2020 latest: Free Xbox game giveaway comes early

As Xbox Gold subscribers wait for the Games with Gold line-up to be revealed, Microsoft has a special surprise in store for fans.

At the time of writing, Xbox owners can download and keep classic adventure game Too Human for free. Just follow the link to the store page.

There’s no word on how long the free game giveaway will last, and Microsoft hasn’t made an official announcement on its blog.

It could be an early Games with Gold free game for July 2020, or it could be a mistake, so it’s worth downloading sooner rather than later.

Originally released on Xbox 360 back in 2008, Too Human is developed by Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain and Eternal Darkness: Sanity’s Requiem studio Silicon Knights.

Thanks to Microsoft backwards compatibility support, the Xbox 360 classic is also playable on Xbox One.

“As the cybernetic god Baldur, players are thrust into the midst of an ongoing battle that threatens the existence of mankind,” reads the official description.

“An ancient machine presence has forced the hand of the gods, and now Baldur is charged with defending humanity from an onslaught of monstrous war machines bent on the eradication of human life.”

Speaking of Games with Gold, subscribers are waiting for Microsoft to officially unveil the next batch of free Xbox games.

In the meantime, subscribers can download and play the June 2020 line-up, which includes Sine Mora, Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse, and Coffee Talk.

With a Metacritic score of 83%, horizontal shoot-em-up Sine Mora is arguably the pick of the new games.

The game features a time manipulation gimmick that lets players slow down time. It also has a surprisingly deep storyline given the genre.

“Time is the ultimate factor,” reads the official description.

“Rather than the traditional health status bar, this old school style shoot ‘em up sets itself apart by focusing on massive destruction and time manipulation. With gorgeously crafted stages and deeply challenging Story and Arcade modes, you will test your abilities in this excellent entry to the shmup genre.”

Coffee Talk is a visual novel of sorts, and one that revolves around a cast of strange creatures living in Seattle.

“Lend an ear to your customers as you serve up hot drinks behind a bar,” the description reads.

“As a barista owner in this soothing and relaxing game, immerse yourself in the stories of the city’s fantasy inhabitants where progression is based on the variety of beverages you serve.

“You will easily get invested in the strong narrative of your customer’s lives while playing this timely character interaction simulator.”

Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse is another strong offering. The 2D platform game is available until the end of the month, so download today.

“Embark on an exciting adventure with your favorite hair-whipping, belly-dancing genie,” reads the official description.

“After losing her magic abilities, Shantae must team up with her nefarious nemesis, Risky Boots, in order to save Sequin Land.

“Slay monsters, battle epic bosses, and obtain new weapons in a quest to remove an evil curse from the land and gain back her magical powers in the process!”
