Glastonbury heartbreak: 'Tearful' Adele's devastating festival confession exposed

Plans to mark the event’s 50th anniversary were left in tatters after organisers were forced into the devastating move to postpone the festivities as a result of Government guidance surrounding the coronavirus pandemic. However, the BBC is determined the show will go on and has dedicated a full schedule of acts, whose best performances at the festival will be replayed in full. Among those included are the likes of David Bowie, Oasis and Pulp, as well as rap royalty Jay Z and his wife Beyoncé.

But it is the 2016 performance of Adele, shown live on the broadcaster tonight, which is expected to pull in the biggest number of viewers.

And as a result of its Saturday night spot, those who witnessed it at the time have been recently sharing their memories of it – including BBC Radio 2 presenter Jo Wiley.

Wiley told The Sun that Adele, now 32, was in tears ahead of her landmark show and “was just so stricken with nerves”.

Although nervous before the show, the ‘Chasing Pavements’ singer would go on to create one of the festival’s most iconic moments and she oozed confidence and commanded the Pyramid stage.

Yet, just half-an-hour before her set in front of thousands, Wiley recalled exactly how the London-born songstress was really feeling.

She said: [Adele] was really scared, really, really scared.

“We were doing the interview and at one point she had to stop as she was in tears.

“She was just so stricken with nerves, absolutely panic stricken.”

Wiley added: “It was amazing to see somebody like that, then to witness her walking out on stage and doing the most incredible set… to know that half an hour before she’d been in tears at the thought of walking out there.”

Among the other headliners performing through the 2016 edition of the festival included rockers Muse, as well as band Coldplay.

Following her standout show, Adele explained that the performance was “the best moment of my life”.

And during the set, she declared to the crowd: “I didn’t wanna come on and now I don’t wanna go off.

The festival is set to return next year but it is unclear whether performers Taylor Swift, Kendrick Lamar and Sir Paul McCartney will take to the stage as they would have done this weekend.

Throughout her career, Adele has set a plethora of records including becoming the second female artist to win six awards in one night at the Grammy Awards.

As well as 15 prizes from the Grammys, she has collected a Golden Globe and Academy Award for the James Bond soundtrack hit ‘Skyfall’.
