On Friday’s episode, the presenter, 46, hinted he will join the popular BBC One show’s line-up during an interview with Neil Jones.
His co-star Ranvir Singh seemed to reference that Adil could appear on the show, and he furthered the rumours by asking pro dancer Neil a bizarre question.
Adil made it clear he was asking “generally” as he was eager to find out if it’s “acceptable” for celebs who are taking part to do some pre-show training.
Speaking to Neil about the show, he asked: “If a celeb was doing it, is it acceptable to do some pre-show training?”
While Neil replied: “It’s fine, I personally like a complete beginner, no bad habits – it’s a lot easier to dance with someone like that.
“If you can get some practice in, do it.”
But Adil paused before quickly replying: “You’re speaking generally, obviously!”
The host was left red-faced as he became flustered by comments made during the chat.
But Ranvir had previously given more hints that her co-star could be joining the cast earlier on in the show.
She asked Neil: “Do you know who the celebrities are?” as she pointed at Adil, who was blushing.
“Normally we find out when you find out, we will be in rehearsals and it’ll be coming out,” Neil explained.
“And at that moment, we’ll be like, ‘Oh OK. How tall’s this person? Where do they live? What’s going to happen?’ We have no idea!”
Adil chirped: “I’m 5’9!” and the trio began laughing.
But Ranvir then told Neil: “Go easy on Adil, won’t you? When he’s training.”
Meanwhile, Neil said he prefers stars to come as total beginners as it’s easier to train them.
He said: “Like Alex last year, a complete beginner and no bad habits whatsoever. It’s a lot easier to dance with someone like that.”
The star also explained the health and safety measures Strictly are putting in place to make sure the show will go ahead amid the ongoing pandemic.
“They’re working really hard, trying to do everything they can,” he said.
“We are getting ready to go into rehearsals, actually lockdown again, to make sure we’re all isolated.
“We [the professional dancers] are going to have a couple of weeks on our own just to make sure we’re all good and get tested, then we will be locking down in a hotel for that period of time.”
He added: “So it’s actually kind of exciting and it’s something we’d like to do every year.”
Stars who are predicted to join the line-up include Katie Price, Maya Jama and Stacey Solomon.
Adil would be in good company if he did join the show, as GMB’s Susanna Reid and Charlotte Hawkins have both competed in the past.
Daily Star Online has contacted Strictly and Adil’s rep for comment.
