In a statement, Sandi said: “Unusually, I am departing from the Great British Bake Off so I can spend more time with my other work. As my waistline will testify, Bake Off is an all-consuming show.
“Spending time with Prue, Paul and Noel has been one of the great pleasures of my life. These are friendships which I know will continue beyond the confines of television.”
It has now been revealed that Matt Lucas will be taking over from Sandi and he will work with Noel, Prue and Paul.
Viewers don’t have to miss out on Bake Off though until it returns later this year as Celebrity Bake Off for Stand Up To Cancer currently airing.
Last week saw Richard Dreyfuss, Scarlett Moffat, James Buckley and Patsy Palmer go head-to-head to win the coveted Bake Off apron.
Celebrity Bake Off continues on Channel 4 on Tuesday at 8pm.
