Holby City ‘s Adrian Fletcher (Alex Walkinshaw) was left devastated in tonight’s episode as he was finally told that he has cancer.
After getting tested when he noticed a number of worrying health issues, he was given the news that he was seriously ill.
Viewers were gutted as Fletch broke down and told his colleague Essie, who also has cancer.
He said: “I was kind of hoping it was diabetes to be honest, but it is ruled out
“Got the results today, and it’s not great,” as he started sobbing.
He revealed he has a Gleason score of nine, making it a high-grade cancer and likelier to spread around his body.
Later, Fletch saw Essie again and told that Dr Hanssen had told him he would need surgery, radiotherapy, and he shouldn’t delay it.
Is Fletch going to beat it, or is this going to be the end for him?
After hearing the high Gleason score and treatment plan, viewers took to social media to worry that Fletch will be killed off.
One fan worried: “I swear they’d better not kill off Fletch.”
A second wrote: “Oh Fletch you have to fight this you have kids. I hate f**king cancer so much. Nobody should have to go through this.”
A third said: “Fletch totally HAS to fight just as hard as Essie, they’ve both got kids & far too much to lose sadly.”
Another added: “Fletch can not die from Cancer on Holby. Just NO NO NO.”
A fifth said: “Better not kill off fletch . That’s too painful.”
Alex said about the news: “The way most people would react to it, he’s shocked, devastated and scared.
“You immediately think about the worst-case scenario, especially if you have kids and Fletch has four children under 16.
“Fletch loves them dearly – and knowing they’ve already lost one parent brings things into perspective.”
Holby City continues next Tuesday at 8pm on BBC.
