Holidays: ‘Age of travellers has changed’ – striking post-lockdown travel trend

The coronavirus pandemic has changed the way in which people book holidays. Rather than concentrating on the amenities or even the destination, travellers are becoming more interested in cleanliness, distance and mode of travel. Earlier this month, the government released a list of countries that people from England can travel to without facing quarantine rules on their return.

Countries on the list include France, Italy and other destinations in Europe.

Spain and Belgium have both since been removed from the list after a sudden spike in coronavirus cases.

Travelling abroad has also become more risky for holidaymakers who now fear that they could face quarantine measures on their return if the UK government decides to add more countries to the “red” list.

But despite some destinations being axed, bookings are still picking back up again across a number of sites.

However, one booking platform called CuddlyNest has revealed that there have been some major differences when it comes to the demographic of holiday-bookers.

CuddlyNest is a fourth-year start-up based in Orlando, Florida.

The site is a booking platform for all accommodation types for all travellers anywhere in the world.

It is currently offering over a million accommodations worldwide.

The company’s mission is to offer all travellers all accommodations at an unbeatable price.

“We just really want to make it simple for travellers to book all types of accommodation on all budgets around the world,” CuddlyNest Partner and COO, Ritesh Raj told Express.co.uk.

“And we’re trying to keep the price as low as possible,” he added.

Raj explained to Express.co.uk that he has noticed an absence of one particular age group.

“The biggest variable right now that we have seen is the fear of travel, or what I call ‘FoT’”, he explained.

“The fear of travel is the biggest variable in deciding where to go irrespective of what country you’re from.”

He added: “A lot of people who are booking are between the age of 25 and I’d say around 38 or 40.”

He continued: “People above the age of 40, we have seen a way lesser number of people booking compared to people aged between 25 and 40.”

Raj explained that they “don’t see bookings” from people aged 60 or 70 plus.

Searches and bookings have increased, according to Raj, but not to the same levels as before the pandemic.

“But, honestly, it’s not really close to what it was.

“Fear of travel is a variable that people respond to depending on where they’re from.”
