Hollyoaks fans are convinced they’ve worked out the identity of the mystery killer behind the upcoming murder in the village.
A special flash-forward episode which aired in December last year, shifted back and forth in time between New Year’s Eve in 2019 and one year ahead in 2020, when things were looking much more darker in the village.
The most jaw-dropping moment was when John Paul McQueen (James Sutton) was seen overlooking a body bag, with no definitive answer as to who was inside.
The County Lines drug-dealing storyline has dominated the show over the past six months and the flash-forward confirmed that police will bust into Nancy Hayton (Jessica Fox) flat and find drugs hidden in young Charlie Dean’s (Charlie Behan) game console controller.
Fans of the Channel 4 soap will know that schoolboy Charlie has become the latest youngster groomed by drug dealer Jordan Price (Connor Callad).
The youngster was targeted by Jordan after drugs boss Victor Brothers (Benjamin O’Mahoney) began increasing pressure on him to drive-up sales among students.
The dodgy character forced his young cousin Sid to recruit Charlie, taking advantage of the teens’s grief over the death of parental figure Kyle Kelly.
Charlie originally declined the offer but later went back to Sid to accept the job selling drugs for Jordan — and was further tempted by an advance on his pay.
With the flash-forward episode revealing that Charlie’s association with Jordan will ultimately lead to a dark spiral where police turn up at his home on December 31, what exactly has the youngster done for the boys in blue to come knocking?
In exclusive odds shared exclusively with Daily Star Online, bookmakers Ladbrokes have Charlie “to turn child killer in New Year’s Eve murder” odds on at 6/1.
Will Charlie get fed up of being told what to do by Jordan or will his new drug dealing job take him down a dangerous path?
Fans have been wondering who could possibly be behind the New Year’s Eve murder with some viewers taking to Twitter to share their predictions that Charlie could be the killer.
One fan penned: “This is where it all starts to go downhill for Charlie.”
Another added: “I am thinking Darren and Nancy have an affair at some point. Between their grief, Darren’s depression, and the affair, that’s probably why they don’t see what’s Charlie been up to and I think Charlie does end up killing someone in the NYE episode..”
A third said: “This will not end well for Charlie.”
Fans will have to wait a few more months to see what exactly happens over the festive period.
Hollyoaks airs Mondays and Tuesdays at 6.30pm on Channel 4, with first look episodes airing on E4 at 7pm
