How to lose visceral fat: The five foods known for burning belly fat

Visceral fat, as opposed to subcutaneous fat, is not visible to the eye. It is a type of body fat that’s stored within the abdominal cavity. It’s the fat’s location that makes it so dangerous for anyone with large amounts of it, as it can build up in the arteries. Located near vital organs including the stomach, liver and intestines, it puts a person at serious risk of health problems. Fortunately, a few small changes can make all the difference and consuming eggs, coconut oil, raspberries, hummus, and celery could help you lose visceral fat, it’s been suggested.

Eggs

“A study published in the International Journal of Obesity compared weight loss after an egg breakfast compared to a bagel breakfast containing similar calories,” explained Toby Amidor, author of The Greek Yoghurt Kitchen.

“Results found that participants who consumed two eggs in their breakfast while following a lower-calorie diet lost 65 percent more weight and reduced their waist circumference by 34 percent compared with those who were on a similar calorie bagel breakfast.

“Eggs are also a great source of protein, which works to keep hunger at bay and curb overeating.”

Coconut oil

“Research shows that coconut oil doesn’t negatively impact blood lipid levels like once believed and it may even help to promote a reduction in stomach fat.

The belly fat-fighting properties of coconut oil stem from the number of medium-chain triglycerides contained which are metabolised quickly and therefor stand less of a chance to be stored as adipose,” said Kayleen St. John executive director of Nutrition and Strategic Development of Euphebe.

Raspberries

“Fructose has (rightly so) got a bad reputation lately for its role in promoting central obesity or belly fat,” says St.John.

“However, fructose found in whole foods like fruit does not act so sinisterly in the body. Fresh or frozen raspberries contain a great deal of fibre, which helps to regulate the body’s insulin response and also reduce belly fat.

“If a fresh punnet comes with a steep price tag at your local grocer, consider buying them frozen: they’re cost-effective, last practically forever, and are picked at the peak of freshness.”

Hummus

A study in the Journal of Nutrition and Food Sciences suggested that those who regularly eat hummus tend to have smaller waists and healthier diets overall.

The researchers pulled data about chickpea and hummus consumption from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey and found that hummus eaters, take in 52 percent more fibre, 13 percent more good-for-you polyunsaturated fats and 20 percent less sugar than non-consumers.

The results are that hummus fans’ waists are, on average, eight percent smaller than the waists of people who don’t eat the dip, the study found.
