Animal Crossing: New Horizons came out with a Summer Update, and perhaps the most exciting part of this is the ability to swim.
“Put on your wet suit to dive & swim in the ocean,” the game tweeted last month.

Now that the update is finally here, you might be trying to figure out exactly how to swim. No worries, as we have you covered below. First, though, you’re going to want to download the new update. Look to the top right of the title screen to make sure you have Ver. 1.3.0.
How to get a wetsuit in Animal Crossing
Before you can swim, you’re going to need to buy a wetsuit. You can do this by going to Nook’s Cranny and buy one by spending 3,000 Bells. You can find one at the glass case, by the tools. It’s our understanding that the design of the wetsuit will change in the shop each day, so if you don’t like the one provided you can wait and buy a different one.

When you get your wetsuit, you’ll need to equip it on your body. Then, head over to the ocean and press A to dive in. Once you’re in the ocean, continue to press A to swim around.
To leave the water, just swim back to the shore and your character will get out. Remember to equip your regular clothes, unless you like the wetsuit look.
How to find sea creatures while swimming in Animal Crossing
One of the best parts about being able to swim in Animal Crossing is that you’re now able to find sea creatures in the ocean.
“Swim in the inviting waters off the coast of your island and dive to discover and scoop up sea creatures that inhabit your island’s ecosystem,” a statement reads. “Keep your eyes peeled for any prospective additions to the museum, and make sure to listen for fun facts from Blathers when you donate your new discoveries.”
To get sea creatures, you need to press Y to dive down. You should see a dark shadow in the water. Just swim over to them, and your character will pick it up. Different sea creatures will show up depending on certain circumstances, such as time and season.
If you’re able to find a Scallop then Pascal the red otter will appear, and offer to trade you the Scallop for a mermaid DIY recipe.
