Have I Got News For You star Ian Hislop, 59, is no stranger to expressing his views on the show and last night’s episode was no different. The broadcaster clashed with Janet Street-Porter as he queried why Dominic Cummings, 48, is yet to resign following backlash about his trips during lockdown.
Boris Johnson’s senior adviser was accused of breaking lockdown rules after he took two trips outside of London.
One of his journeys included a 260-mile trip to County Durham to his parents house and a trip to Barnard Castle to “test his eyesight” after developing coronavirus symptoms.
Dominic addressed his actions at a press conference from Downing Street earlier this week, telling viewers he acted “reasonably and legally” for the “safety” of his family, and doesn’t regret his actions.
Despite his actions causing public outrage, the Prime Minister defended his colleague and said he acted legally.

It has since been revealed he will not face police action over his trip to Barnard Castle.
On last night’s Have I Got News For You, Ian weighed into Dominic as he called for him to resign from his duties.
Addressing Dominic’s speech, Ian said: “He gave an hour an half of utter twaddle. It’s absolutely clear he did break the regulations.
“He found one tiny clause which he said made an exception, but that didn’t cover the journey, for example, his [second] journey to Barnard Castle.
“It was nonsense. It was absolute nonsense and I suppose people were cross because they think he’s taking us for an idiot.
Dominic Cummings has been accused of breaking lockdown rules in recent weeks
Ian Hislop: Have I Got News For You star ranted about Dominic Cummings’ recent trips amid lockdown
“I mean the eye test thing is marvellous. The idea you’re not sure if you can drive back to London so, in order to test your eyesight, you put your four-year-old in the back of the car and drive around and see if you can knock over any pedestrians to maybe smack into a bollard.”
Ian went on to rant: “I think his greatest irritation is, he said at the beginning of it, all the press are doing is giving misinformation about my whereabouts.
“This man has become the centre of the story and I just cannot understand why he hasn’t resigned, that’s Boris,” he added.
Janet interjected, adding: “I think the baying for blood over Dominic Cummings is getting us nowhere.”
“Well, he hasn’t resigned yet. Don’t give up,” Ian replied, which prompted his co-panellists to laugh.
The panellist’s rant prompted many viewers to comment on Twitter.
Piers Morgan commented: “Enjoying Ian Hislop absolutely lacerating Dominic Cummings on #hignfy. There, I’ve said it.”
A second commented: “Really annoyed with Janet Street-Porter sticking up for Cummings – she’s so out of touch with reality #hignfy.”
A third penned: “That was the funniest #hignfy I’ve seen for years. Hislop at his best, arguably.”
“Well, I wonder how many complaints there will be about #HIGNFY. (One of the best for ages),” a fourth wrote.
Another suggested Ian had gone too far with his comments, in a now-deleted tweet.
In response to this, Dan Walker wrote: “Hi Phil. Have you ever watched #hignfy before? They hammer everyone!”
